Due to a wonderful partnership with California Contemporary Ballet (CCBallet), our students have the opportunity to audition and be selected for exceptional performance experiences. California Contemporary Ballet is the non-profit 501(c)(3) resident performing company that shares the facilities at California DanceArts.   California Contemporary Ballet  is one of Southern California’s burgeoning dance companies featuring the choreography of Artistic Director, Aerin Holt and the talent of Career Dancers. In an effort to encourage young dancers in their pursuits toward a career in dance, CCBallet continues to establish a youth division within its organization, California Contemporary Youth Ballet (CCYB). California DanceArts students are eligible for selection into the CCYB company when one enters our Core program ballet level 3.  The CCYB company is designed to fulfill the artistic needs of serious dance students who seek quality performance experience and opportunities.  CCYB assists with student development, which may eventually permit young dancers to make the transition from a pre-professional student toward a career in the professional dance arena or college degree studies, as they choose. CCYBallet members perform in many community based events, in the company’s Snow Queen Ballet (see information below) held each December and annually in their own concert held during the Spring season. Many current members of CCBallet began their careers through our youth company. Annual Snow Queen Ballet
The Snow Queen Ballet is a performance opportunity for dancers and audience of all ages!

The Snow Queen Ballet, produced by California Contemporary Ballet (CCBallet), is a well produced ballet adapted from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, with choreography by Artistic Director, Aerin Holt, originally composed music by Randall Michael Tobin, a Fairy Tale set design, lighting design and original hand-made costumes. The ballet began in 1997 and has become the newest winter-time tradition! Performing to sold out theater audiences each December in Glendale Ca. with a large cast of dancers selected from the company and community. We are most fortunate that California Contemporary Ballet, as a separate and non-profit organization from our school,  allows our students to audition and participate in this opportunity. Even the tiniest students have a place in the show as “Snowflakes“.  Students dance roles as Rivers, Trees, Servants, Gypsies and more! Moms and Dads also participate, either on stage as “Townspeople” or behind the scenes.  California Contemporary Ballet’s Snow Queen has become a family event, bringing families and community together.

California Contemporary Ballet’s Snow Queen has been successfully reviewed in the LA Times, featured on television Chanel KTLA and more. The ballet is beloved by all of California DanceArts students, who consider that the studios at California DanceArts is “Home of the Snow Queen“.

Snow Queen is not a California DanceArts recital. The ballet is produced by California Contemporary Ballet.  Students from California DanceArts are invited to audition and if chosen, may perform in the company’s production. For many California DanceArts students, the winter holidays simply does not begin until they appear on the stage of the Snow Queen Ballet. Most importantly is that when chosen to perform, our students gain an amazing experience by participation in the ballet which provide the opportunity to dance along-side career professionals for a large audience.  This is a full-scale professional production. Children and career dancers alike perform in this ballet by giving all of themselves and their abilities. How does the company integrate young students into a ballet while maintaining high standards?  The effect of such integration is most charming. Our young dancers become motivated during this amazing experience, as they perform alongside career professionals before a large audience. Our career company dancers and invited guest professionals are inspiring.   California DanceArts students have always been motivated, eager to work hard and produce extraordinary results.

The Snow Queen, as written by Has Christian Andersen is a touching Winter-time tale. The story, teaches us about loyalty, persistence on a given course, sacrifice, fighting for what one believes in, and other virtues. It is our belief that our young cast gains as much from the story itself as they do from the rehearsals and thrills of performance. This ballet gives so much to its audience, and even more to its cast. During these times, when young artists are not always enriched, California Contemporary Ballet hopes that many young dancers will take the opportunity to audition and join the rewarding experience offered by participating in the Snow Queen.   Join us by participating in this unique opportunity and be amazed at what our students can accomplish!
